Ed Sullivan Show

Do you remember “The Ed Sullivan Show”, the longest running variety show and the most popular for decades? It first aired 65 years ago on June 20, 1948. Throughout the years all types of acts were performed and many made their television debut on the show. Two of the largest audience acts of the times were Elvis Presley and the Beatles. Our DVD collection includes many of the greatest moments of the “Ed Sullivan Show”.

Garfield 35

America’s favorite lasagna-loving cat celebrates his thirty-fifth birthday. “Garfield”, a modern classic comic strip created by Jim Davis, first appeared on June 19, 1978 and has brought laughter to millions. Our kids comic collection includes many of Jim Davis’ works.

Local History Room

One of the unique things about our library is that we have a separate local history collection. We have local histories, cemetery indexes, family histories, cookbooks and directories. Last year we added a new ST Viewscan microfilm machine. This machine views newspapers exactly as they appeared at publication. You can print it, email it or even save it to a flash drive. Our local history website includes an index of birth, marriages and death notices from area newspapers. Also on our website you can view hundreds of historical photographs. If your ancestors were not from this area, the library still provides a wealth of information through its subscription to Ancestry.com, which is available from any computer here at the library. Heritage Quest.com can be accessed from our website outside the library. Both sites contain state and federal records and much more.

Advanced eBay

Did you register for the Friends of the Library’s “Advanced eBay” class at the library on Thursday, June 20th, 6-9 PM?  This class will cover more than just the basics. You will learn the tricks and importance of using better quality photos, learn how to write a listing that sells, and determine how to position your items to sell. Registration is required, as each participant will need to use a computer. Participants are also asked to have a basic familiarity with Windows, create an eBay and PayPal account prior to class and bring several high-resolution photos of an object they would like to sell (or pretend to sell).
